News Creative Cooking with UOW Pulse This semester, dozens of students stepped out of their routines and into the kitchen, thanks to our Creative Cooking series with UOW Pulse. On Thursday 24 April, we wrapped up the final session, and let’s just say, it was more than just recipes and ingredients. Over a handful of relaxed, hands-on evenings, students learned new skills, swapped stories, and discovered just how powerful a shared meal can be. From chopping and chatting to plating up something delicious, it was all about connection, creativity, and a whole lot of good food. Each session brought together students from all walks of life, some confident with a spatula, others still figuring out how to chop an onion, and created a space that was equal parts kitchen and community. There were the usual suspects: pasta nights, rice bowl experiments, and the occasional kitchen surprise (yes, that lentil curry really was meant to look like that). But there was also laughter, connection, and the kind of support you don’t always expect to find on a weeknight. For many students, uni life can feel a little overwhelming, deadlines, part-time jobs, homesickness, and the pressure to have it all figured out. This series wasn’t about becoming a MasterChef. It was about slowing down. About sharing food and finding familiarity in unfamiliar places. We talked nutrition, swapped tips, and yes, ate really, really well. To everyone who rolled up their sleeves, tried something new, or simply showed up: thank you. You made these sessions what they were, warm, welcoming, and full of heart. As we pack away the aprons (for now), we’re already looking forward to what next semester brings. More flavours, more friends, and more reasons to gather around the kitchen bench.
