The Illawarra Shoalhaven Active Transport Taskforce (ISATT) is a network of state and local government organisations, community groups, and passionate individuals dedicated to improving urban environments to encourage and support active transport for all citizens.

Our aim

The major objective of the taskforce is to reduce the burden of lifestyle-induced chronic disease by helping create urban
environments that encourage greater use of active means of transport for shorter trips.

What’s involved

ISATT was first established in 2006 and has 8 clear objectives:

  1. Make active transport the dominant form of transport for journeys under 10 km
  2. Increase the number of people who report using active forms of transport for daily activities.
  3. Assist all levels of government achieve their greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by reducing transport emissions
  4. Relieve pressure on the healthcare system by reducing the disease burden attributable to disease induced by sedentary lifestyles.
  5. Increase social connectedness within and between our communities
  6. Reduce traffic congestion and improve efficiency of transport networks within and between the LGA’S of Shoalhaven, Kiama, Shellharbour and Wollongong.
  7. Improve road safety and reduce the number of people who suffer injury or death from transport incidents.
  8. Create a more equitable and inclusive transport system in our region.
