Cooper – Active In-Betweens Youth Volunteer

Why did you become a Healthy Cities Illawarra (HCI) volunteer?

I wanted to give the same opportunity that I had. To have these great volunteers there for them to have fun and socialise after school.

How did you first get involved with Healthy Cities Illawarra?

When I was in kindergarten my mother signed me up for the HCI after school care program called Playpod. Once I was too old to be in the program, I became a volunteer which is when I got involved with Healthy Cities Illawarra.

What has your experience as a volunteer been like?

Amazing. The kids are really nice, and the other volunteers are so supportive – especially to the participants.

What is the best thing about being a HCI volunteer in your perspective?

The feeling of knowing you are doing something helpful to the community just makes me feel great!

What would you say to anyone outside considering volunteering?

I would highly recommend it. It’s such a fun job, and volunteering just makes you feel you have helped the people you have been around.
